Former Foster Youth Help Launch Omni Family Foundation
The Omni Family Foundation is part of the Omni Family of Services which has been helping children in need find stability, security and hope for more than 30 years. We’ve worked to find foster homes, provided support for both foster and birth parents and implemented trauma-informed case management to ensure children can emerge from their circumstances healthier and happier.
“Who are your people?” It’s a common question in these parts, especially if you grew up in a small town like Page Walley. Now serving as Executive Director of the Omni Family Foundation, Dr. Walley was using it to make a point with guests at our recent launch event.
It’s a question more than 1,000 youth aging out of foster care each year in Tennessee cannot answer. They are facing adulthood without a sense of belonging — as well as the support system that goes along with having family or caring adults they can turn to for guidance.
Helping Transition from Foster Care to Adult Life
Seeing a child reunified with their birth family or being adopted by a foster parent — finding permanency — is everyone’s goal. But life doesn’t always work out that way.
What is the Omni Family Foundation all about? As board member Missy Marshall explained to guests, The Omni Family Foundation aims to provide youth transitioning beyond foster care a surer path to long-term independence and a successful adulthood.
Ways Omni Family Foundation Helps Beyond Foster Care:
- Expanded access to quality housing
- Continued case management and other supports
- Comprehensive life-skills programs that help youth to “learn by doing”
- Partnering with hands-on experiential learning programs like STEM Scouts and Exploring Posts which provide opportunities for career exploration
What Challenges Do Youth Out of Foster Care Face?
Find out how Omni’s support can make a difference. Guests at the launch heard the powerful stories of Chloe, Jeffrey and Brandon in their own words. If you didn’t make it to the. launch event you can learn more in the video.
Questions Youth Transitioning from Foster Care to Adult Life Ask
- What’s the solution for youth who don’t find a forever home?
- Who may still struggle with the neglect and trauma they experienced?
- Who have no one to help them navigate their job search, offer advice, or even help pay rent when they come up a little short?
Dr. Walley flipped the question of “who are your people” to offer a new perspective for guests: “These youth are our people. Omni is here for them.”
